This passage takes place three days after the calling of Christ’s disciples.
The prophecy at the end of chapter one is about Christ establishing His Kingdom rule on this earth, and it’s all about to kick off in this passage.
In the first century, a typical wedding celebration can last up to two weeks.
Lots of food and drink are needed in order to provide for the guests in attendance and it would be a real embarrassment for the family if the provisions were to run out.
