Having the Wisdom to Know God's Perspective on True Riches
James 1:9-12
Pastor Gus Gill

1. Wisdom to know that poor believers are highly esteemed by God.

A. God shows the poor to be rich in faith.

B. The great reversal – and the example of our Savior God. Isaiah 53:1-3

C. The response of Jesus and the response of the Father. 1 Peter 2:21-23; Philippians 2:5-11

2. Wisdom to know that the riches of this world can lead to death.

A. The Rich, believer or unbeliever?

B. Allowing your financial trials to keep you humble.

C. Two things not to do, and two things to do. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

1. Don't be conceited.

2. Don't hope in the uncertainty of riches. Hebrews 13:5

3. Put your trust in God.

4. Be rich in good works.

3. Wisdom to know the rewards for persevering in love.

A. The rewards include three components.

1. The reward of God's personal involvement.

2. The reward is based on God's promises. Titus 1:1-3

3. The rewards of this life and the next life are based on love. Romans 8:28, 31-32

Women's Ministry
Women's Ministry is encouraging the women of the church to read the Bible, just a chapter a day, and join the TableTop gathering for discussion the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.

The women's Saturday morning Bible study resumes on September 13. See details above. For more information about the group, contact Andrea Flack or Jane Banzhaf.

Men's Ministry
The Thursday morning men's Bible study is taking a break for the summer. For more information, contact Elliot Makuh.

Young Adults
The Young Adults group will resume their Sunday morning meetings on September 21. For more information, contact Daniel Ayers.

Youth Group
Youth Group meets Sunday mornings during the service on all but the first Sunday of the month. Stay tuned for announcements about special summer events.

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers offer one-to-one, Christ-centered, emotional and spiritual care for people in the congregation going through difficult times such as job loss, financial struggles, medical issues, or death of a loved one.

Care Team Ministry
The Care Team Ministry provides transportation for those in need in our Hillside Family.

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Team hosts a monthly prayer night on the third Monday of the month at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome! You can also receive prayer in person from 9:30-10:00am Sunday mornings in the cry room adjacent to the church lobby.

Meals Ministry
The Meals Ministry is a practical way to meet the needs of others in the congregation who are welcoming a new baby or experiencing challenging circumstances.
