When you hear the word hypocrite, what comes to mind? Why do you think people often use that word to describe Christians?
Peter boldly says, “I’m ready to die for you” — but Jesus tells him he will deny Him three times. Why do you think Peter was so quick to promise loyalty to Jesus, yet failed when pressure came?
Have you ever felt like Peter — confident in your faith one moment, but timid or reluctant to share it the next? What happened?
In this verse, after Peter’s third denial, “the Lord turned and looked at Peter” — and Peter wept bitterly. How do you think Peter felt in that moment? Have you ever had a similar “wake-up” moment in your faith?
What’s one practical way we can be more gracious and encouraging toward others in our group or community who are struggling or “messing up”?
Take a moment now to pray this prayer together as a group. “Lord Jesus, thank You for the story of Peter that shows us Your heart. Thank You that our failures don’t define us — Your forgiveness does. Help us to be honest about where we fall short, encouraged that You still pursue us, and willing to step into the purpose You’ve called us to. Use our lives, even our broken places, to point others to You. Amen.”
