Matthew 16:13-19
“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.””
Matthew 28:18-20
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
1 Peter 2:9-10
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
The Big Idea: Everyone deserves to know someone who lives like Jesus!
1. “Everyone” - God’s love and invitation is for all people, no matter their background, status, or location.
Genesis 12:3
“...all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
👉 God’s promise to Abraham was global from the start—meant for everyone.
Isaiah 49:6
“I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
👉 The mission was always to include everyone, not just Israel.
1 Timothy 2:3–4
“...God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Revelation 7:9
“...there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language...”
👉 A picture of the fulfillment of the “everyone” vision—it ends with global worship.
2. “Deserves” - This doesn’t mean people have earned it or are worthy on their own—it reflects God’s heart and design for humanity. Everyone is created in God’s image and is meant to experience life with Jesus. Therefore, everyone is entitled by God’s grace to see and know the love, truth, and example of someone who truly follows Jesus.

Deuteronomy 10:18–19
“He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you...And you are to love those who are foreigners...”
👉 God cares that all people, especially outsiders, are included and treated with dignity.

Romans 10:14–15
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?” “And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”
👉 There’s a God-given urgency to ensure all have access to the message—because they deserve to hear it.

Micah 6:8
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
👉 Justice includes giving people what they are due—access to God’s love and truth.

Acts 10:34–35
“I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”
👉 Reinforces that everyone deserves the chance to know and follow God.
3. “To Know Someone” - Faith is not just taught—it’s caught through relationships. The Bible consistently shows the Gospel spreading through people, not just proclamations.

Proverbs 13:20
“Walk with the wise and become wise...”
👉 Spiritual growth happens through proximity to others.

Mark 3:14
“[Jesus] appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.”
👉 Discipleship started with being with Jesus, not just learning from Him.

2 Timothy 3:10–11
“You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love...”
👉 Paul reminds Timothy that his faith was shaped by knowing someone who lived it.

Acts 4:13
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
👉 Transformation was noticed not because of training, but because of relationship—with Jesus and with others.

1 Thessalonians 2:8
“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.”
👉 Paul emphasizes the relational nature of ministry—it’s not just about preaching, but presence.

4. “Who Lives Like Jesus” - This is the heart of discipleship: not just believing in Jesus, but actually living like Him.

1 John 2:6
“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
👉 Clear call to live like Jesus.

Galatians 2:20
“...It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me...”
👉 A transformed life is one that reflects Jesus.

Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
👉 Visibility matters—our lives are a testimony.

Philippians 2:15
“...Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.”
👉 Your life should be a visible example—so that others can know Jesus through you.

How Do We Do This?
The same way that Jesus did: by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The best opportunity for witness is pain - theirs or yours.
