Sermon Series Overview:
Let Them is a popular cultural phrase based on the book Let Them by Mel Robbins. The book is a simple yet powerful message to stop trying to control others and reclaim your energy for yourself. We will pick four concepts from this book that we can apply Christian principles to make this concept of Let Them spiritually enriching. Our first week we will consider the importance of guarding your heart. Scripture is clear we were created to have healthy boundaries in our lives, but sometimes we forget and only follow our emotions which can lead us astray.
Weekly Sermon Overview:
In Week 2 of our series, “Let Them… and Walk Away from Foolishness,” we reflected on how Proverbs 9:7-10 teaches us the difference between wasting energy on foolish arguments and finding life in the fear of the Lord. The writer warns that correcting a “scoffer” only invites abuse but receiving correction as the wise do leads to greater understanding. In a world filled with online debates and endless “doom scrolling,” this wisdom is as relevant as ever. When we keep trying to win arguments or force others to see our perspective, we risk entangling ourselves in the very foolishness the Book of Proverbs calls us to avoid. True wisdom comes not from winning debates, but from revering God and walking in the footsteps of Christ.
We will see this truth illustrated in both a congregation member’s story of stepping away from social media and in a personal example of how arguing online with family caused deep damage to a relationship. Paul echoes this in Romans 12:18, urging us to live at peace as far as it depends on us, and James 1:19-20 reminds us to be slow to speak and slow to anger. Walking away from foolishness is not weakness; it is choosing peace, guarding our relationships, and anchoring our lives in the wisdom that begins with the fear of the Lord.
