The greatest commandment is the key to keeping all ten, and that’s radical love!
Intertextuality = When one part of The Bible talks to another part.
The Ten Commandments Simplified:
1. No gods before me = God comes first; nothing competes with your love for God!
2. No idols = Don't worship anything man-made. Nothing you create can replace God.
3. Don't misuse God's name = Don't damage God's name by using God's name for your agenda.
4. Keep the Sabbath holy = Saying No To slavery and Yes to Freedom!
5. Honor your father and mother = Honor God-given authority.
6. Don't murder = Value life! Don't take innocent life.
7. Don't commit adultery = Be faithful to your covenant.
8. Don't steal = Don't take what God didn't give.
9. Don't lie or "false witness" = Always speak truth.
10. Don't covet = Not wanting what's someone else's.
Practical Advice: Teach your children the Ten Commandments.
Question: What commandment do you struggle with?
Torah: תּוֹרָה (Hebrew) = Law, instruction, teaching, and direction; the way of life in God's covenant community.
Simple Definition: The Law is not just rules; it’s God’s way of life, showing us how to walk with Him in blessing and right standing through faith.
Man couldn't come close to keeping 613 laws, so God gave them a top ten!
If you kept the ten, you would keep them all!
The Ten Commandments are how you radically love God and people!
There are 2 main themes of the Ten Commandments that require one response!
2 Themes of the Ten Commandments:
1. Understanding Commandments
Tsavah: צִוָּה (Hebrew) = To command, order, or appoint; conveys the idea of divine authority and binding obligation.
Entolē: ἐντολή (Greek) = an authoritative order, particularly from God, expressing His will for moral and spiritual conduct.
Simple Definition: A commandment is an invitation to love God and live for God in the way that pleases Him!
The commandments are not rules, they are relationship!
They are not called the “Ten Suggestions”!
God invites us to partner with His commands, but demonic forces just make demands!
Demonic forces make demands!
Practical Advice: Treat the commandments like suggestive commands.
2 Themes of the Ten Commandments:
1. Understanding commandments
2. How we respond to commandments
You have 2 options: you can obey God or disobey God!
Shema simplified = Listening to God with a heart to act.
Obeying the commandments reflects your love for God.
When you fall in love with Jesus, you want to obey Him!
Obedience isn’t about perfection, but a heart posture of surrender.
Obedience brings the blessing of the Lord, but disobedience brings curses and consequences.
Curse = Divine disfavor
Practical Advice: If you are struggling keeping the commandments of God, pray the prayer of radical love!
4 Warnings Concerning the Ten Commandments:

2. Watch out for legalism "a religious spirit"
3. Watch out for antinomianism.
Antinomianism is rejecting God’s commands and living like His grace is a license to sin.

It's when you go from legalism to a license to sin!
“Unbiblical Grace” or "hyper grace" teaches that grace nullifies the need for obedience; the biblical truth is that grace empowers obedience.
The commandments are greater under grace!
4 Warnings Concerning the Ten Commandments:
1. Disobeying the Ten Commandments will harm your relationship with God and people.
2. Watch out for legalism
3. Watch out for antinomianism. "a religious spirit"
4. Disobedience to God (rebellion) opens the door to demonic spirits in your life!
If you do not keep (obey) the commandments, you are saying “I’m not under the authority of the Lordship of Christ!"
A great way to self-assess your spiritual growth is to pay attention to how often you reject correction!
Rebellion says, “You can’t tell me what to do.” Maturity says, “Lord, what pleases You?”
Jesus wasn’t just quoting the OT, the OT was prophesying Jesus!
Jesus made it possible to keep the commandments!
You love God by keeping the commandments, and you keep the commandments by radically loving God!
