Nothing can stop the power and plans of God | Sunday is Coming - Part 10

No matter how dark life seems, remember — Sunday is coming. In the final chapters of Matthew’s Gospel, we witness the darkest moments of human history unfold: betrayal, denial, injustice, and death. From the scheming of religious leaders to Judas’ kiss of betrayal… from Peter’s heart-wrenching denial to the brutal crucifixion of the Son of God… darkness seems to reign. Hope is buried. Faith is tested. Silence falls heavy on Saturday. But that’s not where the story ends. This series, Sunday Is Coming, invites us to walk with Jesus through the valley of suffering and into the victory of resurrection. We will see that even in our most hopeless hours — when we've failed, when we've been betrayed, when we're grieving — the resurrection power of Jesus is at work behind the scenes. Each week, we will journey through Matthew 26–28, not just to remember what Jesus endured, but to anchor our lives in the promise that death never has the final word.

Main Idea: Nothing can stop the power and plans of God.
“The darkness is the symbol of the wrath of God which fell on those who slew his only begotten Son. God was angry, and his frown removed the light of day. The symbol also tells us what our Lord Jesus Christ endured. The darkness outside of him was the figure of the darkness that was within him.”
- Charles Spurgeon
“In the fourth year of the 202nd Olympiad, there was an extraordinary eclipse of the sun: at the sixth hour, the day turned into dark night, so that the stars in heaven were seen; and there was an earthquake.”
- Phlegon, Roman Historian
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far from my deliverance and from my words of groaning? My God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, by night, yet I have no rest. But you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. Our ancestors trusted in you; they trusted, and you rescued them. They cried to you and were set free; they trusted in you and were not disgraced. But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by people. Everyone who sees me mocks me; they sneer and shake their heads: “He relies on the Lord; let him save him; let the Lord rescue him, since he takes pleasure in him.” - Psalm 22:1-8

“He gave up his life because He willed it, when He willed it, and as He willed it.” - Augustine of Hippo
“To their everlasting honour, these women evidenced more courage, and affectionate attachment to their Lord and Master, than the disciples did, who had promised to die with him rather than forsake him.”
- Adam Clarke
