Jesus was crucified | Sunday is Coming - Part 09

No matter how dark life seems, remember — Sunday is coming. In the final chapters of Matthew’s Gospel, we witness the darkest moments of human history unfold: betrayal, denial, injustice, and death. From the scheming of religious leaders to Judas’ kiss of betrayal… from Peter’s heart-wrenching denial to the brutal crucifixion of the Son of God… darkness seems to reign. Hope is buried. Faith is tested. Silence falls heavy on Saturday. But that’s not where the story ends. This series, Sunday Is Coming, invites us to walk with Jesus through the valley of suffering and into the victory of resurrection. We will see that even in our most hopeless hours — when we've failed, when we've been betrayed, when we're grieving — the resurrection power of Jesus is at work behind the scenes. Each week, we will journey through Matthew 26–28, not just to remember what Jesus endured, but to anchor our lives in the promise that death never has the final word.

“The reference to Alexander and Rufus certainly does presuppose that Mark expected many of his readers to know them, in person or by reputation, as almost all commentators have agreed, but this cannot in itself explain why they are named. There does not seem to be any good reason available other than that Mark is appealing to Simon’s eyewitness testimony, known in the early Christian movement not from his own firsthand account but through his sons. Perhaps Simon did not, like his sons, join the movement, or he died in the early years, while his sons remained well-known figures, telling their father’s story of the crucifixion of Jesus.”
