📖 SERMON GUIDE
The Church: A Community of Faith
Week 1: We Are One Body
Trice Seargent – Murray Family Church – August 3, 2025

Main Text: 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 (NASB)
Theme: Fellowship in the Body of Christ

✨ Key Idea:
“The Church is not a building or a Sunday event—it is the Body of Christ, and we are all essential parts of it.”

📖 1 Corinthians 12:12–14
12 For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one part, but many.

Main Points:
1. Many Parts, One Body

📖 Corinthians 12:18–20
18 But now God has arranged the parts, each one of them in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 But now there are many parts, but one body.

Just like the human body, the Church is made up of different parts with different functions.

Every believer is uniquely gifted and placed by God.
You are not an accident—you are essential.

✍️ My Reflection:
What is one gift or talent I believe God has placed in me?

2. Value in Every Member

📖 1 Corinthians 12:21–22
21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again, the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, it is much truer that the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;

No part is unnecessary—even those that seem weaker are vital.
Your contribution—seen or unseen—has Kingdom value.
There are no spectators in the body of Christ.

✍️ My Reflection:
Where am I currently serving—or where could I serve—that reflects God's heart through me?

3. Interdependence, Not Independence

📖 1 Corinthians 12:24b–26
24b But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked, 25 so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same care for one another. 26 And if one part of the body suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if a part is honored, all the parts rejoice with it.

God designed the body for care, unity, and mutual support.
When one part suffers or rejoices, we all share in it.
We need each other.

✍️ My Reflection:
Who in the church am I walking with right now? Who can I encourage or support this week?

Application: 3 Next Steps
1. Discover Your Role
+ Take a spiritual gifts survey (See Kristen).
+ Ask: Where is God calling me to serve in the body?

2. Commit to Connection
+ Join a group: Bible study, prayer group, lunch group, or serving team.
+ Build relationships beyond Sundays.

3. Contribute Consistently
+ Show up. Speak up. Step up.
+ Serve, give, and encourage as part of your worship and calling.

📖 1 Corinthians 12:27 (NASB)
“Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it.”

🗣 Challenge:
Don’t just go to church—be the Church.
Let’s walk in love, unity, and purpose—as one body in Christ.

✍️ Personal Takeaway:
What is God speaking to me today about my place in the body?
