We are called to move from critical, condemning judgment to careful, compassionate discernment, for the sake of personal integrity and the glory of God.
Key Application:
Before addressing sin or faults in others, honestly examine and deal with your own heart and behavior as well as your intentions; then, with humility and love, help restore others in truth.
Key Verses:
Matthew 7:3 “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?”
Key Questions:
1. What “logs” might be in my own life that I’ve been ignoring while noticing the “specks” in others?
2. When I speak difficult truth to someone, am I doing it out of love and a desire for their restoration? Or out of pride, frustration, or superiority?
3. Do I know the difference between judging according to God’s Word and judging based on my personal preferences or assumptions?
