“as long as you love anything more than God, that thing or person or item will become a source of anxiety.”

2. The calmed and quieted heart
a. Is humble
b. Lives according to "life"
“One reason [we are not free from anxiety], it seems, is that in our heart of hearts we are afraid of the consequences of going the whole way into the Christian life. We shrink from accepting burdens of responsibility for others because we fear we should not have strength to bear them. We shrink from accepting a way of life in which we forfeit material security because we are afraid of being left stranded. We shrink from breaking with social conventions in order to serve Christ because we fear that if we did, the established structure of our life would collapse all around us, leaving us without a footing anywhere.”

c. Stays in the present
“[God] wants men to be concerned with what they do, our business is to keep them thinking about what will happen to them.”

Key Theme:
Because God is our loving and all-knowing Father, we can trust Him to release our anxieties to Him and live for His kingdom.

Key Application:
Name your anxieties – prayerfully seek to give them to Him as you trust in His provision and reorient your priorities. Live in the present leaning on him for today’s troubles and blessings.

Key Verses:
Psalm 131:1-2 “O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”

Key Questions:
1. What specific anxieties tend to pull your focus away from trusting God in the present?

2. What is one practical step you can take this week to seek God’s kingdom first—rather than chasing comfort, control, or security?

3. How might your view of God as Father deepen your ability to trust Him with both your needs and your future?

Sermon Scripture for next week: Read Matthew 7:1-6

Give Online

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
