1. A Lustful Heart
2. The Eye is the Lamp of the Body
3. Mortification of the Flesh
“First, we must never ‘feed the flesh’. ‘Make no provision for the flesh,’ says Paul, ‘to fulfill the lusts thereof’. There is a fire within you; never bring any oil anywhere near it, because if you do there will be a flame, and there will be trouble”. - Martyn Lloyd Jones
"I know of no faster way to sever your head from your heart, no surer path to a dead orthodoxy, no quicker route to a spiritually barren, nihilistic wasteland, than to allow sin to go unchallenged and unmortified in one's daily life." - Revering God, Thaddeus J. Williams
The Do's:
1. Do Examine
2. Do Confess
3. Do Look
4. Do Find Life
1. Do Examine
2. Do Confess
3. Do Look
4. Do Find Life
Key Theme:
Lust is not just about outward behavior but is a heart-level issue rooted in misplaced desires and a perceived inner emptiness.
Key application:
Jesus calls for a radical action to cut off anything that fuels the lust of our heart and an internal transformation that brings true life, contentment, and faithfulness.
Key verse:
Matthew 5:27-30 - “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.'
Key Questions:
1. What is the hole in your life or heart that you are trying to fill, that you are longing to quiet? Whether lust of a person or a thing we long because we believe happiness can be found or at least that unhappiness can be quieted.
2. How are you making provision for the lust of your heart? What specific things are you flirting with when you should be cutting them off?
3. Are you taking your thoughts captive, examining, confessing, looking to Jesus, and experiencing life?
Sermon Scripture for next week: Read Matthew 5:31-32

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
