3. This is the way of Jesus
Key Theme:
Rather than simply seeing our righteousness based on the “worst” expression of the heart (i.e. murder), Jesus redefines true holiness as beginning in the heart—where anger, insults, and judgment begin.
Key Application:
We must examine our hearts for anger—especially unjust or self-centered anger—and submit it to Jesus, seeking His mercy and choosing reconciliation over resentment.
Key Verses:
Matthew 5:21-22 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”
Key Questions:
1. Where are you most susceptible to “causeless” anger? Can you think of any instances recently in your life?
2. Why is it always easier for us to measure ourselves by external behavior instead of what is inside?
3. What does anger look like among your friends and or family? Is it a just anger? Is it causeless anger? What does reconciliation look like?
Sermon Scripture for next week: Read Matthew 5:27-30

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
