How to give to your church

Friends, giving financially is both an act of worship and a vital ministry. The best way to give to your church is through online giving. Whether via email transfer or Canada Helps. The instruction and link (in the case of Canada Helps) are on our church website. Alternatively, you can also mail checks to the church address: 6 Kilburn Place, Etobicoke, ON, M9R 2X5.   Your giving funds our local ministry including a food bank that feeds over 170 families in Etobicoke, support programs for the hurting (Divorce Care, Griefshare and more), mission partnerships in Europe, Southeast Asia, India and in Canada.

Intro:

When Jesus rose from the dead, everything changed.

The authorities of the day condemned and killed a carpenter's son who others thought would be the hope and future king of Israel. The religious leaders of the day saw him as a threat to their way of life and hold to power. So on the cross he died.

They buried his body, sealed his burial cave with a large stone and had it guarded. Yet on the third day, nobody could find the body. Still later, 500 eyewitnesses saw him alive.

The cowards found courage. Those who wanted to save themselves willingly gave their lives to him.

Our current series poses the question... If Jesus changed everything then, what does that change for me now?

This week, we conclude this question with... When I feel pain or when death seems near?

Some of us are aware it is coming to us all. The younger ones are still fooled by the power of youth thinking such event is far from their present lives. Others don't want to talk about it. But is is coming to us all.

To answer our question, we need to get back to the event before the crucifixion.
Two convicts, sentenced to death mocking a fellow convict.

Jesus was being mocked, which is quite minor to what he has been through already.

Jesus was beaten just right. Enough to be severely injured but still alive enough to be crucified. Brutally close and personally offensive.

Yet, focused on the Father's plan, he showed mercy instead of anger.

Two reactions that evolved:

Mockery-“Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!

Humility- “Don’t you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we rightly so, for we are getting what we deserve for what we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

In many ways, the criminals can represent us. Faced with the accounts of the gospel, we can react in the same two ways.
The humbled one gives us the truth we need to learn:
…fear God
…we are getting what we deserve for what we did
…this man has done nothing wrong.

He recognize who Jesus is- The Messiah
Then he made the right request.
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

We are the robbers- we are on the way to the cross and we have nothing to bring Jesus but our opportunity to confess.
Who are you trusting?
Plead for mercy and receive grace.
3 truths we need to learn or re-discover:
Jesus is God
I am a sinner
Jesus is sinless.

Who are you trusting? You can trust God.
