2. The Spirit of the Pharisees
a. To relax the law
b. Sought their glory
c. Takes pride in their righteousness
Key Theme:
Jesus fulfills the law and calls us to a deeper righteousness—one that flows from a changed heart, not just external obedience.

Key application:
Don’t settle for looking righteous—ask God to make you truly righteous from the inside out, by the power of His Spirit.

Key verse:
Matthew 5:20 “For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Key Questions:
1. In what ways do you find yourself tempted to focus more on outward obedience than inward transformation?

2. Is there an area of your life where you're justifying sin or compromise—perhaps by comparing yourself to others or emphasizing the “good” you do?

3. What are some things that hinder your spiritual life? How can you “throw” those things off?

Church family, we praise God for how faithfully in so many respects you give. Our church family is undeniably generous, but we still have great needs for supplication. We ask that you give joyfully, faithfully and sacrificially in response to how our great God and Savior has given to us.
