Revelation 15-16
These images are not describing literal events in the future, these are three symbolic visions saying the same thing from different angles = we see God exacting limited judgment upon sinful humanity between the resurrection and return of Christ, what the Bible calls these last days. These limited judgments provide warnings and interventions to offer people God’s grace in anticipation of His final ultimate judgment when Christ returns.
Signs or symbols point beyond themselves to a particular reality
Revelation gives us a symbolic vision of reality for every generation of the Church
Human History: human societies become like Babylon (captivity-conformity
God’s Plan: Jesus returns to fully judge and remove evil from His world, renew all things
Christ followers: we need grace to persevere thru tribulation & pressure to compromise allegiance to Jesus.

What are the judgments of God
Psalm 96 and 98 = “Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness all creation rejoices because God is coming “to judge the earth”
Psalm 96 and 98 = “Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness all creation rejoices because God is coming “to judge the earth”
In the judgments we see God at work thru history in two ways:
-He allows human wickedness to fall upon itself
-He intervenes to prevent total destruction and provide more time

Bowls 1-5 - God punishes the ungodly by disturbing their earthly security/idols
-the first angel…poured out his bowl on the earth…horrible, malignant sores
-the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea…everything in the sea died.
-the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs…they became blood.
-the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, causing it to scorch everyone…they cursed the name of God…They did not repent of their sins and turn to God and give him glory.
-the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast…was plunged into darkness.

Bowls 5-7 - God punishes the ungodly and evil itself fully when Christ returns
“to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty.”
15 “Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed…”
Ezekiel/Nahum/Isaiah = prophecies of God stripping the pagan nations to reveal their idolatry
Rev 3:18“ I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
