hey
When the two lines of the human race BLENDED God’s heart BROKE, and, for the human race, it ended BADLY.
1. What happened to the human race and the two lines?
- The wicked, evil (walking away from God) line of Cain
- The graced, repentant (walking with God) line of Seth
“Sons of God” and “Daughters of men”:

- (less popular) Royal Nobles—who claimed demi-god status and took common women into their harem. (Based upon Ancient Near Eastern Texts)

- (most-popular) Fallen Angels—who intermarry with daughters of men. (Based upon how Job 1:6; 38:7, Daniel 3:25, 2 Peter 2:4, and Jude 6 interpret the phrase “sons of God”—referring to fallen angels.)

- (popular; my option) Sethite View—sons of God are men from the line of Seth who marry the daughters of the line of Cain.
1) The Context of Genesis 4 and 5 and the establishment of 2 lines.
2) “Sons of God” can be seen to apply to God’s line.
Exodus 4:22–23
Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you, “Let my son go, so he may worship me.”

Deuteronomy 14:1
“You are the sons of the Lord your God.”

Hosea 11:1
“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”
Matthew 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."

Romans 8:14
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."

Galatians 3:26
“…for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.”

“Son of God” is a designated description of Jesus.
3) This would make greater sense to Israel when reading in their context.
4) The lowering of the age of humans.
5) Connection to Genesis 3:6 and how temptation gives birth to sin.
Genesis 3:6:
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good (tob) for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

Genesis 6:2:
the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful (tobot), and they took as their wives any of them they chose.
2. How did the Lord respond to the blended human race?
- He saw the wickedness of the human race (v5).
- He lamented (grieved) the human condition (v6, 7).

Definition of lament: Sorrow over what is but shouldn’t be.

- He suffered and hurt deeply by what was and what he had to do (v6).
- He said he’ll judge them (v7).
Why the death penalty?

The penalty of sin = DEATH.
3 reasons why True Justice and True Judgment is deeply loving:

- It says to the one doing the act—you cannot do this and get away with it.

- It says to the victim of the act—you are seen, heard, and cared for.

- It says to the world who sees the act—we want you to have a safe, secure, whole, functioning, and flourishing world to live in.
3. Why was one human and his family spared?

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. . . . Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time and he walked faithfully with God.”
Why is Noah spared?
God’s Grace.

What kind of person was Noah to be spared?
Righteous and Blameless.

How did Noah become that kind of person?
He W.A.L.K.ed faithfully with God.

- Wake up Faith in God
- Agape God
- Lean in, Listen to, Learn from and be Loyal to God
- Knit your heart to God
Are you WALKING AWAY from God?

Are you WALKING on the FENCE with God and the World?

Are you WALKING with God?

What does it take to WALK with God when the Culture is WALKING AWAY from God?

1) Conviction
2) Confidence
3) Courage
4) Consistency
5) Concern
