Romans 8:29-34
God Is For Us

Introduction
1. At times of suffering everything is constantly changing. Is there a constant? Only that constant
can bring stability.
2. God is that constant on which to build. GOD IS FOR US!
3. Have you forgotten? GOD IS FOR US!
4. Romans 8:29-34 when we forget he gives us 5 reminders:

I. HIS PLAN 8:29-30
God has it all taken care of from beginning to end. Paul proceeds to explain His purpose and
our calling. He looks at it from God’s point of view.
“5 golden links in the chain of security”
The emphasis is on God doing everything.
A. In the Sphere of His Wisdom
Foreknowledge
1.No one whom God foreknows will fail to be predestined, called, justified and glorified by Him. The work God begins He completes.
2.Foreknowledge doesn’t merely mean to know beforehand.
*It declares that God has a purpose, a plan, a design for that individual. God brings to pass in me what He plans for me.
*This man being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. You have taken…you crucified. (Acts 2:23) The foreknowledge of God flows from His determinate counsel. He did not merely look ahead to see who would be saved.
*This is salvation from God’s perspective.
B.Under the Sovereignty Of His Will
Predestine
1.Every person He foreknew He predestined. Predestination looks at the end of God’s purpose and act of choosing.
2.Predestinate is to mark out ahead of time guaranteeing an arrival. ‘To determine beforehand.’ Our Lord has predetermined everyone who believes.
3.This is always for the saved and never the lost. What is determined by God is brought to pass?
*To be conformed to the image of His Son…to look more like Jesus. In this process called sanctification change begins at salvation. Trials, suffering (18, 28) are essential to accomplish that mission.
*Purpose: that He might be the first born among many brethren. Preeminent among those who are sons of God. First born…#1 in position. Ultimately this will be at the Rapture!
C.Under the Sound Of His Word
Called
Those He foreknew, He predestined. Those He Predestined He called.
1.It is here the eternal plan directly intersects our lives in time.
2.Many are called, but few are chosen. There is an External Call. Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The External Call is essential.
3.This is an Inward Effectual Call by the Holy Spirit which leads to saving faith in Christ.
*The External Call flows from the Gospel. It should be strongly emphasized that now where does God choose unbelievers to be lost! God predestines believers to eternal live, but Scripture does not say He predestines unbelievers to eternal damnation. If a person goes to Hell, it is because he rejects God and His way of salvation. Unbelievers are condemned by their own unbelief, not God’s foreknowledge, Election or Predestination.
*I don’t know how it works: God chooses…Man must make a choice, a decision!
D.Under the Shadow Of His Wing
Justified
1.Those He called, He justified. This is every called person!
2.Justified is to declare righteous. It is a judicial act of God.
E.Into the Splendor Of His World
Glorified
1.To those He justified, He glorified. When we see Him, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
2.Notice: this is past tense…our glorification is as sure as if it had already happened!
*I don’t have to wait to see if I make it. There is not purgatory…No probationary period.
*I will have a body like His!

II. HIS PERSPECTIVE 8:31
What can we say? If God be for us who can be against us?
A.No Adversary amounts to anything when God is for us…no disease, disappointment, defeat, depression, discouragement, death can defeat us!
B.Verses 18, 22, 28 As Trials mount…as Doubts press in…as Our heart breaks…What shall we say? GOD IS FOR ME!
C.Regardless of the circumstances or situations: God is for me!

III. HIS PROOF 8:32
How do I know! Look at the cross!
A. “He spared not His own Son” What is your most prized possession?
B.“He delivered Him up for us all” He hung on the cross for us all. When we were enemies, aliens, children of Satan He gave the best He had for us!
C.How shall He now with Him freely give us all things”
1.Do you think He would give us anything, but His best?
2.Life can be difficult. “This is what I need to look more like Jesus.”
3.Freely give us…out of His grace: We deserve Hell. Anything this side of Hell is grace. Even in death we see grace. This body can only take so much: “I have something so much better.”

IV. HIS PRONOUNCEMENT 8:33
A. The Charge
Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?
1.It’s easy to blame yourself.
2.The judge decides ‘guilty’ or ‘innocent’ How can He say both at one time?!
B.The Criteria
Shall God that justifieth?
1.In sin…who is the offended party? In forgiveness who must be satisfied? God!
2.When God declares us righteous in Christ. That never changes! Jesus has already paid the penalty. He has declared mu righteous!

V. HIS PLEA 8:34
Four realities that protect our salvation:
A. Christ died for us.
B.Christ was raised for us.
C.Christ is at the Father’s right hand for us.
D.Christ intercedes for us. Can Christ intercede for us and condemn us at the same time?!
Intercession (Heb. 4:14-16) means that Jesus Christ represents us before the throne of God.

It’s all of God. It’s all of Grace!
GOD IS FOR US!
