The Text in Context

"Biblical separation does not require the Christian to avoid all contact with unbelievers. It does not even prohibit the Christian from enjoying the hospitality of an unbeliever by accepting a dinner invitation. Biblical separation is not meant to keep the Christian isolated from the world (which we are to evangelize), but to keep us separate from those who..." (Click link to read more.)

Message Outline

1. All things are permitted.

2. Eat whatever.

3. Do not eat it.

4. The sake of conscience.

5. The glory of God.
Next Steps

1. Memorize verse 10:31.

2. Think of something you would normally do this next week.

3. Find a way to do it for the glory of God.
Growth Group / Personal Reflection Questions

1. How do you handle disagreement?

2. Paul acknowledges Christian freedom but emphasizes that not everything permissible is constructive, (v 23). How do we discern when our actions, though allowed, might not be helpful to others? Can you share a time when you chose to forgo a freedom for the sake of someone else's sensitivities?

3. In verse 24, Paul instructs believers to seek the good of others over their own. In what ways can we apply this principle in our daily lives, especially when our choices might influence others' faith or conscience? How does this align with Jesus’ example of selfless love?

4. Paul discusses eating food offered to idols and advises sensitivity to others' beliefs. How can we navigate situations where our freedoms might cause others to stumble? Have you encountered scenarios where you had to adjust your behavior out of respect for someone else's convictions? What role does conscience play in verses 25–29, and why is it important to consider others’ consciences in our decisions?

5. How does the command to “do all to the glory of God” (v. 31) serve as a guiding principle for Christian conduct? Can you identify areas in your life where this principle has transformed your approach to decision-making?
Growth Group / Personal Prayer Prompts

1. Prayers of thanksgiving for StoneBridge's 4th Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser benefitting Sarah's House. (Total amounts raised will be announced soon!)

2. As the church looks ahead towards summer, pray that God provides the volunteers needed for a successful StoneBridge Day Camp. Also, pray that God would lead children and families, inside and outside of our congregation, to sign up and participate.

3. Pray that the Big Summer Fun summer events would be attractive to those individuals and families who are searching for healthy Christian community.

4) Pray for the leadership of the State of California. Pray for the leadership of the Federal Government. Pray for wisdom where needed, mercy where needed, and justice where needed.

5) Pray for stability throughout the world, that God's kingdom would reign.

Sunday's Second Hour
Every Sunday in May, grow deeper in faith with others. During the Second Hour, you're invited to join one of the following studies starting at 10:45am.

Fun with Revelation!
Taught by Pastor Jon
For thousands of years, the book of Revelation has been a source of confusion, anxiety and controversy. However, when understood appropriately, it can be a source of deep hope. Join Pastor Jon as he presents a way of reading Revelation that leads to insight and hope, rather than misunderstanding and fear.

Reasons to Believe - The Basics of Christian Apologetics
Taught by Associate Pastor Jonathan Lusche
1 Peter 3:15 encourages believers to “… always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that they have…” The discipline of apologetics encourages being well informed of the rational arguments in favor of Jesus’ resurrection, the reliability of scripture, the existence of God, and more. If you’ve ever felt ill equipped to defend your personal faith, then you’ll find this four week class inspiring and helpful.

If you are interested in any of these studies, sign-ups are not required but appreciated. Email info@stonebridgesimi.com to sign up.
