The Text in Context

"Both unity and diversity can be seen in the complementary ministries of Paul and Apollos. Both serve the same Master; both are engaged in accomplishing the same task. Both are brothers in Christ. But each one has his own unique..." Click link to read more.

Message Outline

1. What is the Church?

2. Dysfunction

3. The Temple

4. Paul's Idea of Church

5. Church Today
Next Steps

1. Reflect on the gifts God has given you.

2. Think of a way you can use those gifts for God's church.

3. Reach out to an appropriate person about serving the church.
Growth Group / Personal Reflection Questions

1. In verses 1-4, because of their jealousy and divisions, Paul describes the Corinthians as "infants in Christ". According to Paul, what are some signs of spiritual immaturity? How might spiritual growth and maturity be measured? What steps can be taken to move from spiritual infancy to maturity?

2. In verses 5-9, Paul teaches that he and Apollos are merely God's servants ministering among them. How might recognizing church leadership as merely servants promote unity? In what ways can focusing on human leaders lead to division? How can we cultivate a culture of unity at StoneBridge?

3. In this section, Paul discusses God's temple. What do you know about the temple in Jerusalem? How central to the story of the Bible do you think the temple is?

4. In verses 16-17, Paul states that the church is God's temple in which God's Spirit dwells. What are the implications of viewing the church community as God's holy temple? How should this perspective influence our behavior and interactions within the church? What responsibilities do we have to protect and honor this sacred space?

5. In verses 18-23, Paul contrasts worldly wisdom with God's wisdom and cautions against boasting in human leaders. How can we distinguish between worldly wisdom and divine wisdom? What does it mean to "become a fool" to become truly wise in God's eyes?
Growth Group / Personal Prayer Prompts

1. Pray for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser benefitting Sarah's House.

2. As the church looks ahead towards summer, pray that God provides the volunteers needed for a successful StoneBridge Day Camp. Also, pray that God would lead children and families, inside and outside of our congregation, to sign up and participate.

3. Pray that the Big Summer Fun summer events would be attractive to those individuals and families who are searching for healthy Christian community.

4) Pray for our nation's and state's leadership. Pray for wisdom, mercy, and justice.

5) Pray for stability throughout the world, that God's kingdom would reign.

Sunday's Second Hour
Beginning Sunday, May 4th, grow deeper in faith with others. During the Second Hour, you're invited to join one of the following studies starting at 10:45am.

Fun with Revelation!
Taught by Pastor Jon
For thousands of years, the book of Revelation has been a source of confusion, anxiety and controversy. However, when understood appropriately, it can be a source of deep hope. Join Pastor Jon as he presents a way of reading Revelation that leads to insight and hope, rather than misunderstanding and fear.

Reasons to Believe - The Basics of Christian Apologetics
Taught by Associate Pastor Jonathan Lusche
1 Peter 3:15 encourages believers to “… always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that they have…” The discipline of apologetics encourages being well informed of the rational arguments in favor of Jesus’ resurrection, the reliability of scripture, the existence of God, and more. If you’ve ever felt ill equipped to defend your personal faith, then you’ll find this four week class inspiring and helpful.

If you are interested in any of these studies, sign-ups are not required but appreciated. Email info@stonebridgesimi.com to sign up.

Childcare provided for infants through 5th grade available upon request, email kristen@stonebridgesimi.com.
