Spiritual disciplines should produce spiritual growth but if we are not careful, they will become another religious exercise that feeds our flesh.
QUESTION: How do you measure spiritual growth?
Spiritual growth is measured by how much fruit is evident in your life.
QUESTION: So how do I spiritually grow?

I spiritually grow by allowing God to develop the fruit of the Spirit in me.
QUESTION: How does the enemy keep you from bearing fruit?

By tempting you to rush your process

Ishmael, son of the flesh [son of our own doing] was birthed because Abraham lacked patience.
Patience is defined (with somebody/something) the ability to stay calm and accept a delay or something annoying without complaining

In Hebrew “Patience” is defined by two words “Erech-Appayim” -
Erech – Long
Appayim – Nose
Long of nose also means longsuffering
The first word for “Patience” in the Greek is "Makrothumia" - Long suffering, self-restraint before proceeding to action. The quality of a person who is able to avenge himself yet refrains from doing so.

The second word for “Patience” in the Greek is "Hupomone" - Steadfastness, endurance, a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance

Makrothumia” is patience in respect to people, while “hupomone” is patience in putting up with things or circumstances.
We bring our complaint before God because we are looking at what we do for God.
CAUTION: If we are not careful, what we do for God and for the church can create entitlement in our hearts.
Job was equating his righteousness with his stuff. And it’s not until Job finally realizes God is not looking at his righteousness, He’s looking at his heart. It’s when Job finally comes to a place of humility that leads him to say this in Job 42:2-6...
You will never truly know God until you go through the testing of things in your heart.

Challenges, difficulties, and trials will reveal if patience and long suffering is really in your heart.
God will never be able to develop the fruit of patience inside of you without a pure heart.
When patience is not evident it reveals the lack of purity in the heart.

When patience is not evident it reveals the lack of pure motives and intentions.
QUESTION: How is patience developed?

God orchestrates circumstances and situations as opportunities for you to walk in the fruit of patience.
Patience is not something that God needs to give you. When you received Jesus, you received the Holy Spirit; patience came with that.

All 9 fruit which are attributes of Jesus is already in you.
- Love is already in you
- Joy is already in you
- Peace is already in you
- Kindness is already in you
- Goodness is already in you
- Faithfulness is already in you
- Gentleness is already in you
- Self-control is already in you
- Patience is already in you.
When you pray, you may be expecting God to hand you something, but God is expecting to build something in you.
You may be after fulfilling your destiny, but God is after developing your fruit.
What do I do while God is developing patience in me?
· Ask God Questions
· Daily Encounter
· Find Accountability
· Let It Go + Let It Die
· Pray + Plan
PRACTICAL ADVICE: Planning does not reveal a lack of patience. It reveals stewardship through preparation.
Asking God questions is not a lack of faith; it’s the evidence of wisdom.
PRACITCAL ADVICE: I would encourage you to ask people that will tell you the truth this question: Do you see me as a patient person?
What are some causes that lead us to not walk in the fruit of patience?
· People
· Selfishness
· Trails of Life
· Lack of Daily Encounters
· Lack of Sabbath
· Lack of Gratitude
· Lack of vision
Vision will enable you to endure with patience.

PRACTICAL ADVICE: Ask the Lord to give you a vision for your life.
How Do We Cultivate Patience in Our Lives?
1. Daily Encounters
2. Sabbath
3. Gratitude
4. Pray in the Spirit
5. Meditation (Find a scripture to stand on)
6. Fasting
7. Lingering
The Hebrew word for “wait” is Kavah - to braid oneself. Your lingering is connected to you braiding yourself to Him.
In the Hebrew the word “will” is lebit’s translated as heart – it has to do with the inner man, the mind, will

The Greek word for “will” is Thelemait’s translated as desire; it’s connected to attitude, or how you feel about something.
QUESTION: Have you stopped to ask God how He feels about the circumstances you are going through?
And if you want to see the fruit of patience in your life you cannot rebel in the garden; you will have to submit in the garden.
