Series - "Simply Jesus" - (part 3)

"Jesus, the Shepherd" It is my goal to help us see Jesus Christ in a dual role today. He was indeed the Good Shepherd, but He was also the Lamb of God. We will ponder the friction and contradiction in both. May the Lord prepare many hearts for salvation this Easter.

Easter Celebration:

Jesus is more than just a man.

Jesus is uniquely different to the other, self-proclaimed leaders of world history.
Aristotle - follow my model
Confucious - follow my sayings
Allah - follow my philosophy
Moses - follow my commands
Jesus - was bold enough to say - "Follow Me!"

Jesus existed in pre-creation with the Father.

Overview of Resurrection Glory:

Crucifixion
Joseph of Arimathea begged to have the body of Jesus for burial. Strange for a member of the Sanhedrin to ask for this. I believe Joseph became, little by little, a believer in Jesus the Messiah.

At the grave two cloths were likely found:
1. one at the head - folded. 2. one at the feet - crumpled
We all must 'stoop' (in humility) to get inside!!
Divine Roles:

Jesus had a duplicity of nature:
1. God and man
2. Priest and Prophet
3. Servant and King
4. Father and Son
5. Shepherd and Lamb
The Shepherd:

1. Good Shepherd
2. Shepherds first to hear announcement of baby Jesus' birth.
3. Jesus teaches about shepherds and one lost sheep.
4. Calling Simon Peter - feed my sheep - feed my lambs.
The Great Paradox: Jesus was both Shepherd and Lamb

1. John - 'Behold the Lamb of God...'

1. Consider the care of a Shepherd for a Lamb
2. Consider the connection between the Shepherd and His Sheep.
The Shepherd and Lamb:

1. Incredible contradiction. This proves the manifest love of God for us.
2. The lamb
precious...set aside to be offered on behalf of the family.
3. Imagine making your way to Jerusalem with a beloved lamb to be killed.
4. Imagine Jesus - the Lamb - knowing His time was short.
Lambs:
1. most vulnerable
2. meekest of all animals
3. slain at 3 pm on Passover. (Jesus died at exact time!)
Jesus - the paradox of a reliable Shepherd...and a dying Lamb.

He did it for each of us.

He died so we could live.
The Final Paradox: The Lamb becomes The Lion!

From CS Lewis' writings of Chronicles of Narnia - we get the picture of Aslan, the lion...slain

And...Aslan the lion, risen!

"That when a willing victim who has committed on treachery is killed on a traitor's stand, the stone table will crack...and even death itself will turn backwards." - Aslan

See Jesus...standing, risen, powerful as a Lion!!
The Root of David

Mentioned in the text from Revelation. This is a common reference to Israel's greatest king...King David.

And yet, Simon Peter, at the great Pentecost message - had something powerful to say as a comparison.
When they heard...they were pierced, they repented, they believed, they were filled, they were baptized!

What will you do with the Lamb who became a Lion?
