Easter Message
John 16:20; John 20:1โ20
โ๏ธ Jesus, the Risen One, turns our deep grieving to rejoicing.
๐ Opening Thought:
In the Upper Room, Jesus gave His final teachingโand made a promise still echoing today:
John 16:20 (NLT)
โI tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what will happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.โ
๐ God Has Always Turned Grieving into Rejoicing
From the very beginning, this has been God's rhythm:
๐ฟ Genesis 3:15 โ Even in the Fall, God whispered redemption.
โHe will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.โ
๐ Throughout Scripture:
Abraham & Sarah โ Infertility to Isaac
Joseph โ Betrayal to Palace
Ruth โ Widowhood to Legacy
David โ Sin to Mercy
Elijah โ Despair to Godโs Whisper
Job โ Loss to Restoration
๐ Larger Stories:
The Flood โ Rainbow
Egypt โ Exodus
Exile โ Return
This has been the work of God since the beginning: to turn grieving into rejoicing.
๐ Jesus Fulfills the Pattern
In the Gospel of John:
Water โ Wine (Joy at the Wedding)
Blind โ Sight
Paralytic โ Walking
Samaritan Woman โ Testimony
Sinful Woman โ Forgiveness
Lazarus โ Raised in Joy
Each moment foreshadows Easter.
๐ฏ๏ธ The Upper Room โ The Tomb โ The Turnaround
Thursday: Jesus promises joy.
Friday: Jesus dies.
Saturday: Silence and grief.
Sunday: The turnaround.
๐ John 20:1โ20 (NLT) โ He is Risen! Mary Magdalene finds the tomb empty. Peter and John run to see. Jesus appears to Maryโcalls her by name. That evening: "Peace be with you" โ and they were filled with joy!
๐ The Resurrection Continues to Change Lives
Peter โ Denial to Restoration
Paul โ Persecutor to Preacher
Jailor โ Suicide to Salvation
Eunuch โ Confused to Rejoicing
Pentecost โ 3,000 Reborn
The Gospel kept spreading. The Church kept rejoicing. Why? Because Jesus, the Risen One, turns deep grieving to rejoicing.
โ What About Your Grief? Are you in a Saturday seasonโwaiting, weeping, wondering?
๐ฌ Jesus says: โYou will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.โ
๐ Weโve seen it in Scripture.
๐ฐ๏ธ Weโve seen it in history.
๐ฅ Weโve seen it in this church.
You will see it, too. His work takes time. It includes loss. But it always leads to joy.
๐ฏ Conclusion: The Supper Still to Come
Revelation 19:6โ9 (NLT) โ The Wedding Feast of the Lamb โBlessed are those who are invitedโฆโ
Revelation 21:1โ4 (NLT) โ No more tears. No more grief. โHe will wipe every tear from their eyesโฆโ
๐ Final Truth:
๐๏ธ This has been the work of God since the beginning โ to turn grieving to rejoicing.
๐ This is the work of Easter โ to turn your grief into joy.
๐ And one day, the work will be complete โ with no more grieving, only rejoicing.
๐ Key Verse: John 16:20 - โYou will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.โ
