Week 6 || Restart Smart || How To Know What To Say And When To Say It
Date: 10.21.18
Text: Proverbs 18:21; 12:18

Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our everyday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors.

Wisdom doesn’t just change the way we think, it changes the way we speak.

Who has significantly impacted your life with their words? What did they say that made such a difference?

READ PROVERBS 18:21. Why is it easier to remember the harsh words of those who hurt you rather than the kind words of those who’ve encouraged you?

READ PROVERBS 12:18. What kinds of words or conversations pierce deeply? What kinds of words or conversations bring healing?

In which circumstances do you most often find yourself losing control of your mouth?

READ JAMES 3:5-12. How does James capture the wisdom of the Proverbs with his instructions?

Here are a few pieces of wisdom that can help us gain control our tongues:
Ask three questions before responding with your perspective.
Avoid broad declarations.
Listen to understand rather than reply.
When you’re in a conversation, remember that everything a person does, says, and believes makes sense to them.

Which of these do you need to embrace more fully this coming week? Or, is there another strategy you’re hoping to adopt?

PRAY for God’s help in speaking more wisely.
