The Good Life (Genesis 2:4-17)

The Good Life (Genesis 2:4-17)

Sunday, March 16, 2025 - Message #3 by Pastor Doug Corlew; "In The Beginning" Genesis Series

Locations & Times

1000 S Main St, Alta, IA 51002, USA

Sunday 8:30 AM

Sunday 10:00 AM

The magnitude of Adam's fall is only seen when we grasp his original nature and purpose:
1. Created for an intimate relationship with God. (v 4-7)
2. Placed in an ideal environment to flourish. (v 8-14)
3. Responsible to serve and obey his Maker. (v 15-17)
Sermon Discussion
Applying God’s Word through Journey Groups, family devotions, or personal meditation:

Opener
1. What does our culture tell us about the good life? What are some examples of “living the good life” according to the world?

Recap
2. Read Genesis 2:4-17. What stood out to you most from the sermon? Was there a particular verse or point that resonated with you?

3. We see how “dust” represents both our humble origins and our dependence on God. How does this truth shape our understanding of ourselves and our need for God?

4. What are some ways we are tempted to believe that God is "holding out on us" rather than trusting His provision?

5. The “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” represented a test of obedience for Adam. What in your life tests your obedience to God?

Digging Deeper—Read Romans 5:12-21.
6. In what ways is Jesus compared to Adam?

7. How is Jesus different (and greater) than Adam?

8. How does looking at this passage increase your gratitude and appreciation for God’s grace through Christ?

Application
9. What practices help you cultivate an intimate relationship with God? Share some ways that God has used those in your life.

10. How can we view our jobs biblically and honor God in our work?
