SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
GETTING TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER
What is the best excuse you can think of to quit something?
Do you have any walls up that keep you from getting to Jesus?
SERMON QUOTES
What was your favorite quote from the message on Sunday?
GOING DEEPER IN THE WORD TOGETHER
Read John 5:1-15 NLT
This is the encounter Jesus has with a lame man by the pool of Bethesda.
Jesus asks this man an interesting question. “Would you like to get well?” Why do you think Jesus asked this?
Are there people in our society today who don’t really want to be well?
Jesus asks Him if he would like to be well and this man responds with excuses, fairly legitimate excuses, but excuses none the less. Why are excuses so much easier to come up with and believe?
What excuses have kept you from God’s blessings in the past?
Jesus goes right past his excuse and heals this man instantly. Does anyone have a story of God coming through even though you had every legitimate excuse in the book for Him not to?
In verse 14 Jesus comes back to this man and tells him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.” Jesus meets us where we are but never leaves us there. What did He mean by “something even worse” may happen to this man?
Why was “stop sinning” (aka- live for Jesus) so important for Jesus to say? How do we “stop sinning” even after the healing?
APPLYING SCRIPTURE TO YOUR LIFE
Where did Jesus meet you before you knew Him as your savior?
How do you look past excuses and have faith that God can do anything?
