Luke 17:11-13 (ESV)
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”
Lepers were ceremonially unclean, and forced to live away from healthy society.
They asked for a merciful healing, but they also needed a merciful rescue.
Luke 17:14
When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.
When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.
The distance created by our situations can’t stop the power of God.
We should always obey Jesus, and trust Him with the outcomes.
Jesus had power to heal, but also submitted to the law.
Matthew 5:5
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Meekness = power under control
Luke 17:15-18
Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”

Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
Samaritans were despised by the Jews.
Jesus cares about our gratitude, because it is an indicator of the state of our hearts.
Gratitude is a spiritual discipline.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Gratitude leads to joy; a lack of gratitude leads to entitlement.
You can’t be thankful for something that you think you deserve.
Luke 17:19
And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Jesus has power to meet our earthly needs, but His priority is our eternal needs.
