Big Idea:
Rejoice in the peace, access, and hope of justification by faith alone!

1. The PEACE of justification - Romans 5:1
a. Before being justified, we were God’s enemies and under God’s wrath. After being justified, we are God’s friends and have peace with Him!
b. God is FOR US and not AGAINST US!
2. The ACCESS of justification - Romans 5:2a
a. We have VIP ACCESS into the very presence of God through Jesus by faith! And it is not just a one-time pass – it is ETERNAL ACCESS! We can go to Him ANYTIME for ANYTHING.
b. We not only have access but we “STAND” in God’s gracious presence!
3. The HOPE of justification - Romans 5:2b
a. “Hope of the glory of God” is the confident expectation that God will glorify us with Him one day in heaven! Because of Jesus, it is not wishful thinking – it is hope-filled certainty!
b. Access to someone you enjoy creates hope for more. With God, it causes us to rejoice in hope of the glory of God!
c. One of the ways our present experience of God’s grace increases our hope in future glory is through our sufferings.
Suffering - Endurance - Character - Hope
1. There is something about suffering while standing in God’s grace that causes us to experience more of His love.
2. The ability to endure suffering and grow in faith is not done in our own strength, but in the power of the Holy Spirit as He pours God’s love into our hearts as we suffer.
"Next Step" Takeaways:
With God:
Spend some time with God this week and journal about your experience with suffering in light of Romans 5:3-4:
• Does suffering drive you away from God, or toward Him?
• Does it help you sift out the unimportant from the important?
• Does it help you focus your attention more on prayer and on what God has done for you?
• Does it produce tested confidence that your faith is real?
• Does it lead you to a deeper experience of His presence and love?
• If the answer to any of these is “no,” ask the Lord to reveal to you where you are putting your hope other than Him (health, comforts, relationships, possessions, etc.) and help you change this.
"Next Step" Takeaways:
With Others:
• Pray for the people you love that God will use suffering in their lives to increase their experience of His hope and love.
• If you are new to the faith or new to the church, register for and attend the “First Step Welcome Lunch” on Sunday 3/2 at 12:15pm.
