Sermon Title: Who wants to be poor?

We see there is a blessing attached to being "poor in spirit" and access to the kingdom of Heaven.

This word for "poor" in Greek is interpreted as a beggarly or completely destitute.

Jesus was saying I want you like this beggar in the spirit, completely reliant on me!!
You cannot earn your way into the kingdom, you can only surrender your way in!

There is no hope in good deeds to enter the kingdom.

He has made you alive with Christ!!

Blessed are those who understand their spiritual poverty without faith in Jesus Christ.
This is the first step into the kingdom of heaven you must realize you cannot save yourself and be born again from above.

We must learn to stay poor in spirit in the sense of completely relying on God to walk out this christian life.

We must be on guard from becoming self reliant and thinking “ I've got this” and risk becoming lukewarm and back sliding.

We must continually recognize our constant need for Christ.

We must also guard ourselves from spiritual pride.

Any type of success can lead us to pride, even success in the christian life or God using you in certain ways.

Guard your heart from comparing yourselves to other who don't "know" as much as you.

Love is the measurement of christian maturity and love does not boast or is self seeking.

Lets be Johnathans not Sauls.

Being poor in spirit is not about thinking you could never do anything for God and counting yourself out.

This was not what poor in spirit looks like, this was unbelief and lack of trust and obedience.

We see king David operating in being poor in spirit.

David was not trusting in his ability but in God's ability to fight for him.
Moses was looking at himself and David was looking at God
Being poor in spirit is completely relying on God for your strength and victory!

You can go and build the kingdom when you're relying on Christ's strength and not your own!!
We must stay connected to the vine we must trust in his power and strength to be kingdom people and we must watch out for spiritual pride and slowly drifting away!!
Lets pray and ask God to give us grace to stay poor in spirit.
