You Should Be Sanctified (Part 2)
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
Pastor Jerry Koller
The word sanctified has to do with the process of making or becoming holy. It has to do with the idea of being set apart as holy.
Immorality means not aligning up to what is right or wrong based on God’s standards.
Three Purposes of Sexual Intimacy Within Marriage:
· One of the responsibilities or purposes of a marital relationship is to be fruitful and increase in number; to fill the earth and subdue it. This is done through intimacy.
· Another purpose of sexual intimacy is that within a marital relationship, it is to be a pleasurable experience.
· A third purpose is that sexual intimacy deepens the love a husband and wife have for each other.
· All three of these aspects need to be in a healthy balance.

Hedonism is a school of thought that believes pleasure and happiness are the primary or most important aims of human life.
· Aristippus believed that the good life rests upon the belief that among human values pleasure is the highest.
· He also believed that they should use good judgment and exercise self-control to temper powerful human desires.

Throughout history, the backbone of any society is the family.
· One of the primary roles of a family is to cultivate an environment where children can learn and grow.
· When families gather together, you have a community or a society.

The husband and wife’s relationship has an impact on society – especially when it comes to intimacy. Men and women learn how to interact with one another within certain boundaries.
· It also has an impact on society. Without procreation, society will eventually dissolve.
· As people age, they eventually die. Procreation repopulates a society for the good of the society.
· As far as pleasure is concerned, society sets up rules so that others may not share in or hinder what is not rightfully theirs.
· As intimacy draws a husband and wife deeper in love, the love they have will also be reflected throughout the community in numerous, non-intimate ways.

In the Book of Leviticus, chapter six, God gives Israel His standards, His guidelines for intimacy. God tells His people, in verse 24, that they must not defile themselves in any of these ways.
These commands are not a part of the ceremonial law which include sacrifices, washings, and other practices. These are a part of the moral law and are just as binding on us as do not steal or do not lie.
Why causes someone to cross these lines? The answer is an unchecked desire for pleasure.
Sexual morality is not just about not becoming or getting someone pregnant. It is not about avoiding sexually transmitted diseases. It is about following God’s design for us. It’s about following His will.
· Controlling our bodies in a way that is holy and honorable follows God’s guidelines.
· We must control ourselves by following God’s design.
· We must control ourselves by following God’s design.
We need to control our bodies in a holy and honorable way...
APPLICATION
Are you controlling your body in a holy and honorable fashion? Or are you burning in passionate lust like those who do not know God nor follow His will?
We should be following God’s plan for us, not the world’s plan.
Let us commit to helping one another in our sanctification process.
Let us challenge and encourage one another to follow the will of God for our lives.

Happy Birthday!

Hearing Assistance Devices Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.
Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
