Happy 30th Anniversary, Summit Church!
January 1, 1995

On New Year’s Day 30 years ago, 72 people gathered at the Roxy Theatre for the first public worship service of The Evangelical Free Church of Alta. In 1997 the name was changed to Summit Evangelical Free Church and land was purchased at 1000 S. Main Street in Alta. In April 2002 the church family moved into the new ministry facility, which was expanded to the east in 2007. The mortgage on this $2.8 million project was burned in 2010.

As the church’s outreach expanded, The Olive Branch opened in 2009, CrossRidge Evangelical Free Church of Holstein was planted in 2011, and Summit Real Life Center of Storm Lake opened for multicultural ministry in 2019.

Today, some 850 people call Summit their church home, with about one-third from Alta or Aurelia, one-third from Storm Lake, and one-third from 21 surrounding communities. Under the leadership of six pastors and multiple support staff, the church family gathers each Sunday in two locations for five services in four languages. Average 2024 total weekly attendance (both campuses) averaged 557. Ministries for children, youth, and college students continue to thrive, and more than a hundred adults are involved in smaller groups to grow in God’s Word while connecting with friends.

Our disciple-making purpose has remained the same since 1995:
“We are committed to lead people to salvation in Jesus Christ and encourage spiritual growth in all believers through sound Biblical teaching.”

The Olive Branch Ministry Store—3rd and Main, Alta
At the start of 2025 we are praising God for His provision of a new home for The Olive Branch! Renovation is now underway and we hope to open this spring. We are so grateful for all our dedicated volunteers as we continue sharing the love of Christ by meeting the practical needs of our neighbors.

A Gift For You Today—30th Anniversary Summit Journal
Please stop by the table in the Atrium today and pick up your copy of an embossed Summit Journal. Use it daily to write down prayers, prayer requests, or answers to prayer. Jot down favorite Bible verses, sermon notes, or personal thoughts as you meditate on God’s Word each day. We pray this will be a helpful tool to enhance your spiritual growth this year!

“CALL TO ME and I will answer you” Prayer Guide
Our 30th Anniversary Celebration also includes 30 days of prayer for the people and ministries of Summit. A 30-Day Prayer Guide has been written by 30 different members of Summit. Please pick up a copy today, along your January ABIDE devotional! Daily Scripture readings and Sunday morning sermons throughout January will be drawn from the prophet Jeremiah, who challenges us to seek the LORD with all of our hearts.

Church Family Photo Wall
Be sure to check out the east wall in the Atrium today, as all submitted photos from our celebration backdrop are now on display through the end of February. On March 2 you are welcome to take your 5x7 print home with you. If you’re missing from the photo wall, we’d love to include you! Please email photos (any background) to office@SUMMITefc.com.
