Do you know that when Jesus chose His twelve disciples, two of the men He chose couldn’t have been further apart politically then Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot. Those two disciples were much further apart than most Republicans and Democrats are today. Yet, they both were disciples of Jesus.
And when Jesus shares His last supper with them, He says to those two that were so far apart
politically….
politically….
So, as Christians, what should be our response to these election results? Well, we should love one another. But there is more. There is something bigger going on than the election.
Jesus Christ is “the ruler of the kings of the earth.” This is what John means when he says that Jesus is “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 17:14; 19:16). Now, what does that
mean?
mean?
1. It means that He Controls Who becomes President and Who doesn’t.
When Jesus says in Matthew 28:18, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” That must include God’s authority to remove kings and set up kings.
Last Tuesday, everyone voted. And while we are all casting our ballots, Jesus cast His ballot.
And Jesus chose the President, the Senate, the House, and many other leaders.

The ways of Christ’s rule are not simple or easy to understand. The Apostle Paul realized that
when he said,
when he said,
2. It means that He Regulates What the Kings of the Earth Do
Example: Abimelech in Gen 20.
This means that God sometimes intervenes and prevents rulers who do not even know Him from doing acts that are sin. God can and sometimes does restrain evil in the hearts of rulers. And this authority right now belongs to Jesus Christ. He is the ruler of the kings of earth.
3. It means that He will arrange for leadership that brings about the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
Notice the connection between Matthew 28:18 and 19. “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go THEREFORE and make disciples of all the nations….”
His goal in the exercise of His authority over the kings of the earth is to see disciples being made from every nation!
His goal in the exercise of His authority over the kings of the earth is to see disciples being made from every nation!
Remember the scene in Isa 6. King Uzziah has just died. The nation is in transition. A new
leader will rise up to the lead the nation. In the midst of this time of transition, Isaiah goes into
the temple to worship. Let’s see what happens next.

Isaiah sees The Lord on the throne, and he is undone. He is cleansed from his sin. But then a question comes from God on the throne. And the question is, “Who will go for Us?” Isaiah answers the question and says that He will go.
In the midst of God putting a leader in place for Israel, what is on God’s heart? It is the fulfillment of what God wants done on the earth. And He wants the Great Commission fulfilled.
4. It means that the causes of Jesus will triumph.
The reign of Christ over the kings on earth today means that He will triumph and bring all His
saving purposes to victory.
saving purposes to victory.
Because He is the ruler of kings on earth, He cannot be defeated. His causes will triumph.
Those who got elected last Tuesday are put in place to help bring about a decisive triumph for Christ, and to achieve His higher purposes (whether they know it or not.)
5. It means that Christ Is Ordering the World for the Good of the Church
Christ has not promised to order the world for the good of America. But He has promised to order the events of the world for the good of the church!
He is committed to ordering the events of the world for the purification of the church, and the unity of the church, and the expansion of the church.
Ephesians 1:22,And He put all things in subjection under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church. NIV translates it “for the church”, because the verse carries that force. Jesus is making His kingly decision regarding the leaders of the world for the sake of the church.

If you watch the news with the eye of faith, what you are seeing played out before you are the divine strategies for the purifying and unifying and expanding of the body of Christ.
He reigns for the sake of the church.
Never forget, as redeemed children of God, our primary and decisive citizenship is in heaven, not in America or any other country.
We are citizens of heaven, on assignment here on earth. We are ambassadors of Christ. We are here to represent Christ and His Kingdom. That is who we are and why we are here.
Remember what Jesus said when questioned by Pontius Pilate.
America is not eternal, but the Kingdom of God is. Presidents will come and go, but our God will be on the throne forever. We are here to live for Him.
