Psalm 150
Pastor Jerry Koller
Psalm 150
Pastor Jerry Koller
Giving thanks and praising God often go hand-in-hand for both are essential elements of worship.
In simple terms, worship is declaring Godās worth. It is giving God His due.
There are two ways we can view the word praise in this psalm.
Ā· We can understand praise as an expression of honor, respect, and admiration.
Ā· The other way we can understand this word is that of a command.
Ā· We can understand praise as an expression of honor, respect, and admiration.
Ā· The other way we can understand this word is that of a command.
The first phrase or stanza in verse 1 is and what the last phrase or stanza in verse 6 are bookends. Praise the Lord
Ā· I believe the word praise here refers to an expression of honor, respect, and admiration.
Ā· The other 11 times it is used as a command.
Ā· I believe the word praise here refers to an expression of honor, respect, and admiration.
Ā· The other 11 times it is used as a command.
4 questions in regard to praise: the Where, the Why, the How, and the Who.
Where? In His sanctuary.
Ā· Sanctuary is a word which refers to God's chosen meeting place.
Ā· In the Old Testament this meeting place was often a reference to a physical location or place, like the Tabernacle or Temple.
Ā· In the New Testament the focus is no longer on a place or a location. It is on people.

We are to praise him in His mighty heavens.
Ā· Heavens is a word that stands in contrast with the earth.
Ā· Heavens is a word that stands in contrast with the earth.
Why? For His acts of power.
Ā· For His surpassing greatness.
Ā· Surpassing means beyond the limits of excellence.
Ā· For His surpassing greatness.

How? (verses 3-5)
...with the sounding of the trumpet,
...with the harp and lyre,
...with tambourine and dancing,
...with the strings and flute,
...with the clash of cymbals,
...with resounding cymbals.

The book of Psalms has often been referred to as the Old Testament hymn book.
Music and singing seem to have always been an important element of worship.
Who? Everything that has breath.
Ā· The āeverythingā includes all of humanity. But it is not just limited to humanity.
Ā· The āeverythingā includes all of humanity. But it is not just limited to humanity.
The Hebrew word for breath in verse 6 is the same word that is found in Genesis 2:7
The phrase everything that has breath refers to every living being in creation.
The psalm ends just as it began, with an expression of honor, respect, and admiration. Praise the Lord!

Oktoberfest Offering
šš A Time to Give šš
Today we will receive a special Oktoberfest Offering. During our morning worship service, we will have an opportunity to present a monetary gift to God in thanksgiving for His abundant blessings and in joyful celebration of being a church who is committed to being what God wants us to be. We will receive an extremely important Oktoberfest Offering which will be used solely for payment of our building mortgage (annually about $36,000.00). Besides celebrating Godās goodness, our Oktoberfest Celebration will also be a time when we can recommit ourselves to fulfilling Godās calling āTo Know Him and Make Him Knownā and to the goal of living out our faith together. We are looking forward to what 2025 will bring as we see how God will use our building to impact the lives of others in our community. If you are unable to join us for the service, we hope youāll consider either mailing or making an online contribution ahead of time. Your offering is vital to our ability to pay the mortgage. We thank you for prayerfully considering how you can contribute.
šš A Time of Fellowship šš Following our worship service everyone is invited to join us for a potluck in the gym.

Hearing Assistance Devices Now Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.
Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ābill paymentā through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
Donāt forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
