MESSAGE TEXT
1 Kings 18:41-46
*
Today we see Elijah empathizing with his nation and engaged in fervent prayer. If you want to make a difference, be a Word-based, Spirit-led, God-focused, Truth-teller and bring clarity to the key issues of our day just like Elijah. 1 Kings 18:42So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. Elijah is in the fetal position or the Middle Eastern birthing position. That’s how much he cared for his people and how desperate he was for God to send the rain.
*
PROPOSITION
If you want to make a difference, be a Word-based, Spirit-led, God-focused, Truth-teller and bring clarity to the key issues of our day. Do you want to make a difference? Then prepare others to courageously speak and live truth. Elijah was a Word-based, Spirit-led, God-focused, Truth-teller who prayed and spoke through his words and actions. If you’re willing to seed some clouds; if you are willing to partner with God in prayer, you can bring rain clouds out of the sea and outrun horses.
*
MESSAGE
Here's what you want to listen for in the message...
*
The focus is more on Elijah the empathetic pray-er than on the prayer itself. What kind of prayer-er or person makes a difference?
*
Word-based (18:36-37) When you live and pray a Word-based life, it seeds the clouds for an abundance of rain. We’ve already covered this one in the intro.
*
Spirit-led (18:41-42) When you honor the Spirit and His promptings in your life, it seeds the clouds for an abundance of rain. The Spirit can give us insight when God wants to do something so that we can pray it into existence.
*
God-focused (18:43-44) When you honor God and make Him your life (not just part of your life), it seeds the clouds for an abundance of rain.
*
Truth-teller (18:45-46) When you energetically love and serve God by telling the truth, it seeds the clouds for an abundance of rain.
*
Do you want to be make a difference? Be a Word-based, Spirit-led, God-focused, Truth-teller who empathetically prays but who also speaks the truth through their actions.
*
CLOSING
So that the people of Israel would not miss it, God didn’t just send a nice little gentle shower of light rain for 30 minutes. No. After Elijah seeded the spiritual clouds, and pleaded the promises of God, and poked holes in the balloon of blessing through prayer, God opened the heavens and says “This is how much I love you and long to bless you.” God is like, “You want to know how much I love you. You want to know how anxious I am to bless you. You want to know how much I long to know you. Here, it looks like this!” And God, through Elijah pleading his promise, just uncorks a gully-washer. God even blessed with rain those who had ignored him and those who had not yet decided who they would follow. But it’s the abundance of rain, the torrential downpour that says something about God’s grace right here.
*
You seed the clouds with every sacrifice you make, every risk you take. Seed the clouds and then pray for God to open avenues of his blessings to others through your life. Don’t despise the day of small beginnings or clouds the size of a man’s hand. When you feel empathy for the One who came and died for you and make His cause primary in your life – you can make a major difference! Let it rain!
