Understanding Hell and Heaven

Hell (Gehenna): Trash heap outside the walls of Jerusalem which was constantly being burned to get rid of garbage. This would have been the image that Jesus was drawing from when talking about hell. A place of unquenchable fire. A place where there is nothing usable, nothing redeemable, and nothing worthwhile.

Heaven (Paradise): Physical place where God's presence provides rest and reward. Heaven is the New Jerusalem which COMES down from the skies when Jesus returns.

Long-Term Thinking in the Short Term - Be wary of anything that vies for our attention and distracts us from faith in Christ such as:

1. Individual Preferences.
2. Temptations
3. Suffering.

Instead. be a people of peace.
