Mathew 7:24
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like that wise man who built his house on the rock.”

James 1:19-25 NIV84
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, [20] for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. [21] Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. [22] Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. [23] Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror [24] and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. [25] But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it---he will be blessed in what he does.

5 WAYS TO BUILD MY LIFE ON THE BIBLE:

1. I receive it with my ears.

Romans 10:17
Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ.

James 1:19
Everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry. For man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore get rid of all moral filth and evil that is so prevalent, and humbly accept the word planted in you which can save you.

TO BE A GOOD RECEIVER I MUST:

A. I must be quiet.

James 1:19a
Everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry.

B. I must be calm.

James 1:19a
Everyone should be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to become angry.

C. I need to be clean.

James 1:21a
get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent ...

D. I must be humble.

James 1:21b
...and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

2. The second way to build my life on the Bible is to read it with my eyes.

James 1:22-25
Don’t merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves do what it says. Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself he goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like! But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, BUT doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.

3. I research it with my hands.

John 5:39
You search the Scriptues because you believe they will give you eternal life. And the Scriptures point to me!

Acts 17:11
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

4. I review and remember with my mind.

James 1:25
The man who looks intently into the perfect law and continues to do this, not forgetting what he’s heard he will be blessed in what he does.

Joshua 1:8
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you will be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

5. I respond to it with my actions.

James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says!

Mathew 7:24
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like that wise man who built his house on the rock.”
