Sermon Title: THE MILLENNIUM
Sermon Text: REVELATIONS 20:1-10 ESV
Sermon Series: LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS
By: PTR NESTOR SY
SERMON NOTES

Three views of the millennium:
• Amillennialism – “no millennium” (i.e. millennium is interpreted figuratively.)
• Postmillennialism - the millennium is an age of success for the gospel that prepares the earth for Christ’s return.
• Premillennialism - when Jesus returns, he will establish a literal kingdom upon the earth for 1,000 years.

I. THE RESTRAINED ONE (Satan is bound for a thousand years.)
(Revelations 19:20-21; Revelation 20:1-10; Acts 5:3; 1 Corinthians 4:4; 1 Peter 5:8; 1 Thessalonians 2:18; 2 Corinthians 11; 1 John 5)

II. THE RULE & REIGN OF CHRIST
(Revelation 19:16; Revelation 20:4-6; Daniel 7:27; Matthew 19:28; 2 Timothy 2:12; 1 Corinthians 6:2; Isaiah 11:6; Isaiah 35:1-2; Isaiah 2:4)

- Christ is going to rule through people
- There will be restored creation

III. THE REBELLION (when Satan is loosed after the thousand years.)
(Revelation 20:7-10; Ephesians 2:1-3;)

The problem is not the environment, it is the heart.

SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION GUIDE

To the facilitator: Use this section to introduce the topic. If possible, give a brief recap of the sermon.

Share a memorable point, a spiritual lesson, a personal application, a question, or something that challenged you from the sermon last Sunday.

What is one event or day that you remember really looking forward to as a kid? How did the anticipation compare to the actual day?

GROUP DISCUSSION
Read Revelations 20:1-10.
1. Read Revelations 19:11-21 for context and chronology. What happens in this passage? What are some of the names that are given to Christ? Jesus is called “King of kings and Lord of lords” (verse 16). What does this symbolize about his soon and coming kingdom?

2. Read Revelations 20:1-3. How does the binding of Satan for 1,000 years relate to the overall narrative of Revelation? What do you think are the implications of Satan’s binding for the condition of the world during the millennium?

3. Compare and contrast how God will judge Satan, versus how he will reward the faithful witnesses during the thousand years. What specific actions will God take? How do your react to this as a Christian?

4. What did the souls of the martyrs experience during this time versus the rest of the dead? How does this bring comfort and strengthen you to be a vessel of the gospel today?

5. Where do you see evidence of the depravity of humanity in this chapter? In what ways has the wickedness of man been on display not just in this chapter, but to this point in the book of Revelation?

6. God’s judgement is swift, just and all consuming in vs 9-10. In what ways does Satan deceive people today into delaying submission to Christ and putting sin in their life to death?

7. (Optional) Read Revelations 20:11-15. Who are being judged here? What takes place in the Great White Throne judgment?

NEXT STEPS
 I will make choices that reflect the values of the Kingdom of God and prepare for my eternal home.
 I will seek opportunities to participate in God's kingdom work while I am alive.
 I will put my trust in Christ alone.

Don’t forget to:
 Go through the devotionals every day this week.
 Have a regular daily time of prayer and reading of God’s Word.

CLOSING THE SESSION
Close the session by taking the time to pray for one another. Consider the following as you pray:
• Pray for a heart that is continually filled with awe and reverence for God's majesty and grace.
• Pray for relationships to grow with other Christ-followers, that you will encourage and care for one another.
• Pray for your unsaved family, friends, and loved ones.
• Pray for protection, provision, healing and comfort for everyone who’s going through physical, emotional, mental and spiritual pain.
