QUESTION #1 - Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar?
Mark 12:14
They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a] to Caesar or not?
Mark 12:16-17
16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied.
17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him.
JESUS ANSWERED:
Be subject to both HEAVEN and EARTH
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?
As followers of Christ, we must honor the LAWS of man, as well as the LAWS of God.
Romans 13:1-2
1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves
QUESTION #2 - In the resurrection, whose wife will she be?
Mark 12:23
At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
Mark 12:24-27
24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
JESUS ANSWERED:
God is the God of the LIVING, not the DEAD.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?
As followers of Christ, we must focus more on how we LIVE, rather than what happens when we die.
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
QUESTION #3 - Which commandment is the most important?
Mark 12:30-31
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:32-33
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
JESUS ANSWERED:
Give God EVERYTHING, and seek that OTHERS do the same.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?
We must LOVE God by seeking His best for our lives and for others.
Luke 10:36-37
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” 37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him. ”Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
