How to give to your church

Friends, giving financially is both an act of worship and a vital ministry. The best way to give to your church is through online giving. Whether via email transfer or Canada Helps. The instruction and link (in the case of Canada Helps) are on our church website. Alternatively, you can also mail checks to the church address: 6 Kilburn Place, Etobicoke, ON, M9R 2X5.
Your giving funds our local ministry including a food bank that feeds over 170 families in Etobicoke, support programs for the hurting (Divorce Care, Griefshare and more), mission partnerships in Europe, Southeast Asia, India and in Canada.

Intro:

Before this lad... David

God raised a Judge to rescue his people, his people wanted a king of their own.

4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah 5 and said to him, “Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
1 Samuel 8

They got a king after his own heart.

13 And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.
1 Samuel 13

So the Lord chose a replacement who is after God’s own heart.
After David’s anointing, the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him.
What does it mean to be a person after God’s own heart?

Obedience

From being a shepherd, he became a protector of the nation. From being a servant God made him a ruler.

This is in contrast to the Prodigal Son (Luke 15). Grew up being served and ended up being a servant. He started with exceeding blessings and ended up with poverty.

Application: Practice obedience

Humility.

1 Samuel 18:10 (Saul’s thousands, David’s ten thousands; spear); same with 19:9.

In all this, David remained humble.
Application: Practice humility.

Trust in God.

He ignored his popularity (18:1-11). He knows the victories he had are from God.
He did not mind his demotion(18:12-16). He knows he is God’s servant not Saul’s.
He handled his disappointment correctly (18:17-30)

What follows for David are victories, grace, salvation.

God continues to search for people who will be after God’s own heart. May we take up the challenge and follow after David.
