Two problems everyone of us face or will face in our lifetime: death and disappointment.
Jesus shows four things He wants us to believe and hold onto in the midst of tragedy:
- Tears
- Anger
- Truth
- Grace

- Grace
Tears
Jesus knows the big picture, the end of the story. He knows the life that is to come. He sees the resolution to the problem. But right here, right now when you are hurting He hurts with you.
Jesus doesn’t just wipe the tears from your eyes he wipes the tears from his own.

Anger
I don’t only need a weeping friend but a conquering hero when it comes to death.
Jesus was about to go into battle with the most hated enemy known to mankind and he offered to us something no leader can offer, No religion can offer: Jesus promised to erase death itself.

Truth
When Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life,” He was claiming to be the source of both. There is no resurrection apart from Christ, and there is no eternal life apart from Christ. He does more than give life; He is life, and therefore death has no ultimate power over Him.
Jesus shows that neither death nor time is an obstacle to Him.
- Martha believed that the resurrection was an event; Jesus showed her (and us) that the resurrection is a Person.
- Martha’s knowledge of eternal life was an abstract idea; Jesus proved that knowledge of eternal life is a personal relationship.
- Martha thought victory over death was a future expectation; Jesus corrects her, showing that victory is a present reality.

To break up Lazarus’ funeral, Jesus has to commence his own.
Grace
Jesus was making a new way of salvation BY grace through faith in him.
