If you haven't signed up your children, ages 5-12, For VBS we would love for you to sign them up today. Our t-shirt order goes in tomorrow and it would be helpful to have all our students that want a t-shirt to be able to get one. They are $10 when you sign up.

Doors open at on July 9th @ 5pm and food is served from 5-5:30pm. It ends at 7:30pm.

The word Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word that means “to cease, to stop working.”

It refers to doing nothing related to work for a twenty-four hour period
each week. It refers to this unit of time around which we are to orient our entire lives as “holy,” meaning “separate, a cut above” the other six days.

It’s a rhythm of 6 and 1 - 6 days working, 1 day ceasing and resting and enjoying life - the life giving day.

He breathed and created for six days and breathed in on the seventh day. He wasn't worried about what was next. You are in the image of the creator God who did not need to work to get ahead.

God's rest creates a "restfulness" that contradicts the "drivenness" of the system of Pharaoh. We are no longer subject to Pharaoh's anxiety system, the workaholic system, the slavery system.

God brought the children of Israel out of slavery. God would not only deliver Israel unto the Promised Land, but He would also deliver them unto Sabbath rest.

The Sabbath was a commandment from the Lord.

1. The Sabbath cultivates trust. Cultivate means to nurture and grow. I have to trust God there's enough time in 6 days to get everything done. I have to trust that God is my Provider. I can stop on the Sabbath and cease from work because God is on the throne assuring me that the world will not fall apart if I cease from my activities.

What limits me to lean into the Sabbath? What area in my life do I need to trust Him more in?

2. The Sabbath cultivates intentionality. Being intentional in our 6 days.

Observing the Sabbath, we affirm: “God is the center and source of our lives. He is the beginning, the middle and the end of our existence.”

So how do you build this 24 hour period in? What final items do you need to resolve so you can have an uncluttered Sabbath?

3. The Sabbath cultivates connection with our heavenly Father.

My Sabbath day isn’t a different day of me spending time with Him. It is a day I become more aware and contemplate Him without distractions.

Do you spend all day with God? How much time do we pray, read the Bible, worship?

4.. The Sabbath cultivates delight. It’s a day to be refreshed, to do things that bring you life.

Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold it was VERY GOOD.

As part of observing Sabbath, God invites us to join in the celebration, to enjoy and delight in his creation and all the gifts Has offers us in it.
