"Because of the intensity of their opposition, I believe the rendering 'came up to them' in verse one is an understatement. They came stomping up to Peter and John, seizing them and putting them in jail for the night... they would hold them in confinement until they could hear their case in the morning. We might therefore expect that when these religious leaders... seized Peter and John and led them off to jail, that those in the crowd would be reluctant to identify with Jesus and His apostles. 1. In Acts 4:1-7, Peter and John are arrested and brought before a council. What are the reasons given for their arrest? Why exactly are they facing a trial?

2. In what parts of the world do you think Christians are persecuted for their faith today?

3. How can you tell if someone is being persecuted for their faith or being justly prosecuted?

4. In verses 8-12, Peter boldly testifies about Jesus Christ and His resurrection. How can we effectively communicate our beliefs in the face of skepticism or opposition today?
