We’re in this Together: Romans (Week Three)

Study Guide: Start Here
Spiritual growth happens where there is increasing joy, purposed connection, a true sense of identity, & real community.
Colossians 3:12-17
Joy has been described as the calm delight we sense when we see in another’s eyes that they are glad to be with us. We know through the Bible that Jesus feels this way toward us. We experience this truth with each other.
If my joy is overflowing today, who will I try to connect with?
If I am struggling in joy today, who will I let connect with me?
smile • make eye contact • sit in a new spot • greet someone new • listen to a new part of someone’s story • share a part of your story • celebrate with someone • grieve with someone • pray with someone
How is being here today helping me discover a deeper understanding of the 3 essential questions?

As someone created by God:

Who am I?
Why am I here?
Where do I belong?

As followers of Jesus:

Who are we?
What is our calling & purpose?
What kind of people are we?
Authentic community is built at the intersection of our life history & the current values of “our people.” Authentic community is lived out in the tension of grace & truth, found only in step with Jesus.

We love & listen first, ask tough questions, discuss real issues, never condemn, commit to mutual accountability, give & receive correction with humility (& permission), walk in forgiveness, check in, & never give up.

Where will I build community today?
Today’s scripture?
Questions to ask of Jesus…
God reveals himself to us through the living Word (Jesus), the written word (Bible), & the spoken word (Church).
John 1:1-5 • Hebrews 4:12 • Acts 8:31
What do You want me to know?
How can the Gospel help me make sense of this?
(1 Corinthians 15:3)
What do You want to change in me?
Where does this connect with my story right now?
What do You want me to do?
How will others see Your work in my life?
Questions You’ve answered? Questions I still have?
Wisdom is measured in the connection between what we learn & what we practice. James 1:25
Trust: What truth did I discover today that I will choose to trust?
Integrity: How will that trust affect every part of me: heart, soul, mind, & body?
Science: How will I test this trust & let God show Himself faithful?
Intention: What is my plan to choose truth over lies when daily tests come?
Grit: What disciplines & protocols will I practice to push past “quit” to character & hope?
Vector: How will I evaluate & calibrate my direction & momentum?
Empathy: How will we increase sensitivity & compassion for others?
Love: How will we engender lasting commitment & fellowship with each other?

Growth: How will I leverage all of this to strengthen my own faith while encouraging others in or toward faith in Jesus?
