"Jesus as the Way" Sermon Questions
1. Why did John write his Gospel? See John 20:30-31
2. As you read the above verses in your community group what themes are being addressed?
3. Jesus begins this chapter by offering comfort. Why? What are the disciples facing in just a matter of days? What was going to happen to them?
4. Jesus implores his disciples to not be troubled. How can Jesus say that? Doesn’t it seem insensitive for Jesus to command such things? See also Matthew 6:25-34. Notice how many times Jesus says not to worry or not be anxious. Today it seems like we have an epidemic of anxiety in our culture, particularly among the youth and young adults. Can we as Christians really follow such commands? Why or why not?
5. What agitations are you experiencing where you need to heed Jesus’ words?
6. How does John 14:6 relate to Old Testament themes?
7.Why do you think there is this emphasis on “the way” in these verses? You have it in verses 4,5, and 6. John also records 11 other previous references to the way to the Father or heaven. How many “ways” are there to Jesus? What are some “ways” our culture promotes to find peace?
8. In verses 12-14, Jesus says that we will do greater works than he through the power of prayer. How is your prayer life? Do you find yourself drawing closer to the Father through prayer?
