A Bible Truth: The Baptism of the Holy Spirit Is for You Today

Summary: The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a distant concept but a personal truth relevant to you today. It's a source of Holy Spirit “power from on high” that too many Christians have either overlooked or rejected to their loss. Come and read about the mighty baptism of the Holy Spirit — a gift for you today. It will change your life, just as it did for Peter and the early disciples!

Peter’s Transformation

-Peter's Denial: After spending 3 1/2 years with Jesus, Peter denied Him thrice. The third time, he “called down curses on himself, and swore, ‘I don’t know this man you’re talking about!’” (Mark 14:71).

Peter's Boldness: Seven weeks later, Peter preached an anointed message to crowds in Jerusalem. His bold testimony resulted in 3,000 people believing in the Lord and being baptized.

Acts 2:38-41: “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, your children, and those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Jesus' Instructions: Before His ascension, Jesus instructed His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit.

Luke 24:47-53: “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

Empowerment: Despite their training, the disciples needed the Holy Spirit's power for effective ministry.

Acts 1:4,5,8: “John baptized with water, but in just a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. ...But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”

The Day of Pentecost

Acts 2:1-4: “On the day of Pentecost, all the believers met together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven, like the roaring of a mighty windstorm... And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages.”

Transformation: The baptism of the Holy Spirit transformed the disciples into bold witnesses for Christ, performing miracles and spreading the Gospel effectively.

The Ongoing Promise

For All Believers: The promise of the Holy Spirit baptism is for all believers, not just the early disciples.

Acts 2:37-39: “The promise is to you, your children, and those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

- **Speaking in Tongues**: Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

**Acts 10:43-49**: “The Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening... for they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God.”

Receiving the Holy Spirit

Belief and Repentance: Believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for you. Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Acts 19:1-6: “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” ... “When Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.”

Ways to Receive:

Laying on of Hands**: Another believer lays hands on you and prays.
Personal Prayer**: Seek the Lord in prayer and worship.
Group Settings**: Receive during a church service or meeting.

Conclusion

The Pentecostal baptism of the Holy Spirit is for today! It is for you! Like the early disciples, you too can be filled with the Spirit, speak in tongues, and receive that “power from on high” to be Christ’s witnesses wherever you go.

If this message has stirred your heart, find a quiet place before the Lord. Allow worship to spring up within your heart. Ask Him, “Lord, pour out that mighty Holy Spirit baptism upon me today.” He is faithful. Expect to be filled with His Spirit and to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit enables you. Or ask one or more Spirit-filled believers to pray for you to receive. And you will, because it is “for you”!
