Locations & Times

1000 S Main St, Alta, IA 51002, USA

Sunday 8:30 AM

Sunday 10:00 AM

From Jesus' letter to Smyrna, we find 4 reasons to persevere in our faith, regardless of consequences:
1. Christ has CONQUERED DEATH (v 8)
2. CHRIST knows OUR AFFLICTIONS (v 9)
3. Christ rules OVER SATAN (v 10a)
4. Christ promises ETERNAL REWARD (v 10b-11)
Applying God’s Word through 1:10 Journey groups, family devotions, or personal meditation:

Opener
1. Do you have a trophy or award that you are most proud of?

Recap
2. Read Revelation 2:8-11. What stood out to you as surprising, challenging, or encouraging from this week’s sermon?

3. Why do you think it was important for the Church in Smyrna to be reminded with a specific description of Jesus in v 8?

4. What does Jesus mean when he calls certain Jews a “synagogue of Satan”? How does this contrast with our calling to be a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19-20)?

5. What hardships has God used to test you in your life? How did they bring you closer to God?

Digging Deeper – Read Matthew 10:16-33.
6. What predictions for believers does this passage share with the church of Smyrna?

7. When you became a Christian, were you made aware that Christ promised we will suffer? Or did you have to learn that as you grew in your faith?

8. What parts of this passage strengthen your perseverance most?

Application
9. What is the crown of life? How does the promise of receiving it influence how you look at your current life on earth?

10. How can you prepare now to be faithful when tribulations and hardships inevitably come?
