"The Door" Sermon Questions
1. What "doors" have you tried to walk through in life with the hope of finding an exceptional life on the other side? Why did you choose those "doors" and not others?
2. When have you felt like God has closed the door on you? How do you tend to respond when you feel like God has shut the door?
3. In this passage, Jesus reminds us that there are real thieves and robbers that are intent on destroying, killing, and deceiving us. Read Jeremiah 17:9, Heb 3:12-13, and Rev 12:9 Where does deception come from according to these passages? How often does a person who is in the midst of being deceived know it? In the case of Jeremiah 17:9 and Heb 3:12-13, who is deceived first? Name a couple of ways this teaching can shape how we live day-to-day?
4. What exclusive claim is Jesus making in this passage? Why is Jesus' claim so offensive to many?
5. In what ways are the following verses connected with John 10:9: John 14:16, Rom 5:12, Rev 4:1, Eph 2:18, Eph 3:12, Heb 10:19?
6. Jesus shares with you and me that it is his desire that his people experience life abundantly. The Greek work translated as abundantly can also be translated as exceptional, outstanding, or remarkable. How might you understand this passage differently if it were translated to say that followers of Jesus will have an exceptional or remarkable life?
7. How did the Spirit use the sermon or this passage to stimulate your sense of awe in Jesus?
