Promises

Promises

Join us for the start of a new series called: Promises!  The God of the universe has made you some big promises. He made them first in the Old Testament, and they remain at the core of his heart and have never changed. They’re the key to your fulfillment and to his plans for you, both in this life and the life to come. God wants to rescue you from bondage. And he wants you to be a part of a family that is making a difference.  In the ancient celebration of Passover, we find a picture of God’s heart for us in the four cups of wine, representing each of the core promises. No matter where we are on our spiritual journey, these four cups of promise provide a simple, powerful, unforgettable way of reaching our potential and growing closer to God.   Join us starting Sunday, March 17th.

PROMISES
Part 3 – The Promise of Salvation

(Exodus 6:6-7) Therefore, say to the Israelites: “I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.

The Cup of Sanctification – Salvation.
The Cup of Deliverance – Freedom.
The Cup of Redemption – Restoration.
The Cup of Praise – Fulfilment.

Under the Yoke

(Exodus 6:6-7) “I will bring you out from under the yoke...”

1. Forced as slaves to make bricks. You feel enslaved.

(John 8:34-35 Message) Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient, who can't come and go at will.”

(Matthew 27:50-53) And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

2. The murder of babies. You feel empty.

(Exodus 1:15) – Then the king of Egypt told the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth, look at the child when you deliver it. If it’s a boy, kill it, but if it’s a girl, let it live.”

The enemy wants to
kill potential and purpose

3. Requiring them to collect their own straw. You feel exhausted.

The Promise of Salvation

(John 10:10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

(Romans 8:11 Message) It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive - and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you, you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!

(1 Peter 1:3-4 Message) Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven – and the future starts now!

1. Make the move. Repent

(2Corinthians6:17-18) Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

2. Let it go. Surrender

(Mark 8:34-35 Message) Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to saving yourself.

3. Commit your life. Relationship

(Romans 6:19) Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.
