March 31, 2024 | Resurrection that Requires Response

Join us for Easter at Cross City Church! It's a day to celebrate the most powerful event in history: Jesus’ resurrection. Though it happened more than 2,000 years ago, it changes everything for us today! The resurrection means God is powerful and personal, faith is reliable, sin is forgiven, eternity is secured, and death is abolished. Let's celebrate this truth and see what it means for each of us.

NOTES | Resurrection that Requires Response
1 Corinthians 15:12-19
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
If there is no resurrection, we face five insurmountable problems:
1) Christ was merely human, and God is not personal. v. 13, 15
2) We have no basis for truth or faith. v. 14, 17
3) Forgiveness becomes impossible. v. 17
4) Eternity, hope and purpose do not exist. v. 18-19
5) There is no victory over life’s greatest enemies, including death
1 Corinthians 15:20-26
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
God is powerful and personal.

1 Corinthians 15:13
But if there is no resurrection from the dead, not even Christ has been raised.
Truth is reliable.

1 Corinthians 15:14,17
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain…your faith is worthless.
Is. 53:10
But the Lord was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; if He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.
There is debate about which tomb is the actual one Jesus rose from, but no debate that He arose!
Sin is forgiven.

1 Corinthians 15:17
…you are still in your sins.
Eternity is secured.

1 Corinthians 15:18-19
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
John 11:25
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies…
"The entire plan for the future has its key in the resurrection."
– Billy Graham.
Death is abolished.

1 Corinthians 15:24-26
“Then comes the end…when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power…the last enemy that will be abolished is death.”
