Introduction:
Does the communion bread heal your body? Today, let's look at the healing power of the Holy Communion. Surely, a small piece of bread cannot possibly heal a person's physical body, or can it?
Does the communion bread heal your body? Today, let's look at the healing power of the Holy Communion. Surely, a small piece of bread cannot possibly heal a person's physical body, or can it?
1. The bread is for our healing.
The bread is for our healing, not the forgiveness of sins. The broken body refers to Jesus' scourging, His stripes, and the crucifixion.
2. We must properly discern the Lord's body.
We must discern (distinguish) that the bread represents the Lord's body and the price paid for your healing. We are commemorating His death; it's not just a wafer.
The communion cost someone their life. It should be appropriately treated.
(v.27) "Unworthy manner" refers to how you partake.
Paul addresses their behavior during the communion meal.
3. Thanksgiving precedes breakthrough.
Communion is also a Thanksgiving service in remembrance of all Christ has provided for us through the crucifixion. Christ gave thanks before they partook.
We're saying that we're grateful that the power to heal is present because of what Christ did on the cross.
4. Receive the healing power that flows from Jesus' body.
We know that Jesus was never sick. His mind and body were always completely healthy and whole (until He hung on the cross). If the bread is Jesus' body, then partaking means partaking of the body of a man who exuberated resurrection life and wellness.
His body was so powerful that all the woman with the issue of blood had to do was touch his cloak, and she was made well.
Conclusion:
May you always approach communion with the proper reverence and discernment of the ultimate price paid so that you can LIVE WELL!
